I'll take "Family Guy" over "Full Metal Alchemist" any day.

"...American cartoons focus much more on endless humor/ridiculousness and parody."
...much the same way as our political system does...
(I'm supressing the urge to make a 'chicks with tiny Ric's' joke...)

When I was a little kid I used to have a crush on one of the Angels off Captain Scarlet. Only now I can't remember which it was....boy I'm fickle

Let's not forget the animated splendor of Josie and the Pussycats.

Family Guy is a far better show than Full Metal Alchemist (we're also getting a watered down, gutted translation in the English dub), along with many other mainstream-America animes . . . the vast majority of Cartoon Network and FoxBox anime is junk, or at least, junk once translated because it's been toned down for the kids here . . . but there are quite a few animes that really blow it away . . . Hellsing, Cowboy Bebop (yes it has a stupid name), most of the Gundam stuff, FLCL, Evangelion, etc. Then again, it's very hard to compare most American cartoons with Japanese cartoons because, other than the fact that they are both animated, they are completely different genres of film.
By the way, Family Guy and the Simpsons helped me survive finals during first semester . . .
