ok the end of the story ... I got the '93 Ric 4003 cheap $585 plus $50 shipping ... I replaced several rusted screws, the Ric-o-sound and mono jacks were rusted and flaky, there was a lot of corrosion on the backside of the bridge, the neck and bridge needed adjustment, I sheilded the electronics, I wired it for 2 mono outputs, I painted the tops of the beat up and rusted high gain pickups, leveled the frets, polished it up ... and it is now pretty good ...
I traded it for a mid '70's floyd Rose Strat ... The guy who got it is in love with the Ric ... he tried several basses and none felt right ... this bass is the one for him ... he added it to his collection of PRS guitars ...
I don't really play lead guitar so I have to unload the strat ...
That Ric must have been dumped in some humid basement for a while ... but it cleaned up nice .. the neck is good, frets nice, electronics work, the fireglo finish is pretty ... kind of a fun project ...
I must compliment Rickenbacker on the new truss rod system ... easy to adjust and strong ..
