What is everyone using for strings on their 360-12c63's? On my 2004 c63, I've used Pyramid Gold flat wounds, and even after truss rod adjustment my neck would creak, moan and groan till I took them off. I've also used GHS extra lights, but this set would cause my neck to under bow even with no tension on the truss rods. The Ric and D'Addario strings seem to work the best on this guitar.

Square truss rod hole? Now THAT is a little over the top. Even for us.

RIC strings work the best for me. Perfect guage. Hard to coem by locally. Mail order. VERY expensive.

Very expensive compared to very cheap strings, perhaps.

Our standard 12 string set has a MSRP of $13 vs $36 for the Pyramid flats or $22 for their round wound. D'Addario's equivalent set to ours lists for $15.49, while Ernie Ball's range from $13.50 to $15.25.

I've been using Rickenbacker strings on my 660/12 since I got it, but I don't remember the strings being expensive. I got several sets from Mike Parks awhile back, I think I bought him out of his stock, but I'd bet he's got plenty more by now...

I don't think the Rick strings are expensive at all. It would be nice if I could get them locally, at least I could save a couple bucks shipping. But still, great strings at a very good price.

I'm using the factory Ric strings on my 360/12C63 JG and they sound and feel great. I am changing the strings on my 360/12CW FG to Thomastik-Infeld Flats (custom gauges - lower tension). I thought the Ric strings sounded a little harsh on this guitar. I think the T.I.'s might cut the high end somewhat and balance the overall sound. I'll see what happens. The Pyramids just seemed too heavy (tension) to try. I'll update on the sound and playability when I'm done.

Which gauges have you compiled for the Thomastik-Infelds? I'm curious.

JW, I'd be interested in knowing what your set comprises as well--love the TIs on my 325s, would like to give them a go on the c63.

Hey Bill, I just dug up my notes on this from a few months ago... Because I was thinking about ordering a custom set from juststrings.com ... that way they'll be ready when I receive my 12-string. I think the closest gauges you can use are as follows:

TI Custom Set:
E: 39/25
A: 33/20
D: 25/13
G: 20/10
B: 13/13
E: 10/10

RIC Default Gauges (set 95404)
E: 42/26
A: 34/20
D: 26/13
G: 20/10
B: 13/13
E: 10/10

... Or you could find yourself some of these

When I get my 12 string, the Maximas will be going on first... Then after a year I'll probably put TIs on... which means I'll probably compile a set of custom TIs this year.

The No. 483 'red box' flatwound set is in really good shape, except the 1st and 2nd pairs, which have understandably deteriorated over the years. The No. 412 set (rounds) looks almost completely useless, although as you can see in the picture, the heavier gauges are fine... but the plain strings of the high Es look like dirty shoelaces.

Sorry, the "A" slots were messed up on the original "R" tailpiece (bent over) - but I've filed the slots and hope to finish the restring and a 330/12 nut install this week...

P.S I hope they sound great - this custom set cost me over 40 bucks.
FYI, I received a crummy old .039 string from 'Just Strings' which didn't match the others, contacted them and they basically said tough luck. Then I contacted Thomastik/Infeld and they sent me a new string - actually 2 strings - priced at over $ 5.00 a pop at no charge. Great people!
