Peter - I was wondering about the numbers on lefty '05's, since yours is the only I've seen or heard of. Very cool.

I have the D'addario "chromes" on both of mine....the SUPER SOFT ones. Excellent tone, feel and the tension is probably "medium" ....excellent strings for a 4005.

Guess I know my hens! The story of the 4005 is just mind-boggling. One of two made. Holy ****!

I used to use XL170s on my '67 4005WB, but these days she has Chromes in a 40-55-75-95 set, the so called JPS Signature set. TI Jazz Rounds are the lowest tension roundwounds on the planet and you might like them; I am comtemplating trying them on my 4005 when I get aound to bothering.

Jerry - I thought you played guitar? In the pix and at the confluence. I don;t recall you playing any bass at all. Of course I wasn't there all that long. I had a blast watching you play all that old stuff with anyone who wanted to jump in. Even Mrs. Hall did some singing!

And now for the envy part.....You got a 4005?

My first love is bass, I have a '99 V63 and a '67 4005, used to have a an '81 4003 (white/black) a '67 Hofner and in the early '70's owned a 4001 (I have one non-Rick, an Alembic). I have a 4003 on order. I often write the bass lines in my band, and will play bass on some of the tracks of our upcoming cd.

The confluence was fun, I've since listened to the songs I butchered and will get them right next time. I had my 660/12 TUR there, as well as the 4005 and V63.

Wow! Now THAT'S a story! Just unbelievable. This place really is amazing. And that bass, well, one for the ages. I know that face too! I'm sure we've all worn it many times. There's definitely magic in the whole guitar acquisition process isn't there? From the love at first sight phase, seeing the case, approaching it and opening it, I'll stop there! Kinda makes porn useless! Nonetheless, enjoy that historical instrument. I enjoyed that adventure immensely.

Peter's expressions are very genuine in those pics. Our intent was to capture his anticipation and reactions along the way. The one of him grabbing the case handle was in truth the very first time he was within a foot of his new bass. Somehow he had the presence of mind to stop and look up at the camera. Amazing.

Ted is right, after three months of anticipation, highs and lows, by the time I actually saw the case I almost didn't dare open it. The photos were taken as I saw, touched & opened the case, and saw, touched and picked up the bass for the first time. They are all genuine "first take" photos. If it hadn't been for Ted and Mr X wining, dining, accommodating and chauffeuring me all weekend (and they wouldn't allow me to pay for anything) I might still be trying to pick it up now!

It shows, you look so nervous with anticipation, I thought you were going to jump out of my monitor! The pictures are priceless, as I'm sure the bass nearly is!

How do you like that 4005 tone? Worth the trip?
