I've got a very nice burgundy 4005, one of the last out of the factory, according to the guy who sold it to me back in '84 or '85. It's great fun to play.

Nothing to do with anything, I realize...

Thanks, Jeffrey! That's one elegant bass you've got there. I like the binding.

Here's mine...

And here it is in company of my other Rickenbackers... I'll post about them elsewhere, I guess.

Hey Stephen,

Welcome to the forum.
I found this link many moons ago about the bass in question.

http://www.stephenarthur.com/GraveyardFive/Gear/Rick4005.html

Great band.

Also, is it true that Marty Willson-Piper from The Church was interested in buying the bass?
Did you ever jam with any of The Church members?

Thanks, John! It's SG3835, which according to the Rickenbacker site, indicates that it was built in July of 1979.

Jeffrey, I use it mostly for recording. Usually when I play live, I'm on six- or twelve-string guitars or piano.

Hi, Edgar! I'd forgotten that site. Marty Willson-Piper was quite interested in this bass, and said he was ready to buy it sight unseen. This would have been their "Starfish" tour, as best I remember. I never did jam with any members of the Church, but that would have been fun. Mike Mills of REM also expressed an interest. That would have been right before he started using the Guild bass, because he liked its active electronics.

Back in the eighties, I was in a band with my then girlfriend Jane Harrison (a very talented musician!), and she played the 4005 until our other guitar player gave her a Fender with a shorter neck.

So I take it we won't see any pics of you like this one:

BTW, my 4005WB is from February '67. This gig was this past August in Akron, Ohio. My band, Rare Blend opened for The Family Stone Experience and Average White Band that evening.

Wow! What great pictures! And what great basses!

Now I'll have to arrange to play bass for at least one song at my next gig so that I can have a poper picture to post here.

I have a feeling that our bass player will not mind all all, since he'll then get to play my 360/12.
