Hic! Whew, glad to know there's no law against drinking and posting Jwilli! 
Thanks for the compliments guys. As with most RICs, it's more impressive in person and the action is mighty lowwwwwww. At one point I was bold enough to try recording a solo with the guitar, but I ultimately threw the solo out in favour of another idea. A little compression & treble boost is all this guitar ever needs (sometimes I hook it up through my Crybaby and peg the pedal wide open - try that!)
My preference in "figured" maple isn't always for huge flames or quilt. I'm partial to maple that has decent figure AND a deep grain that opposes the figure. OK, just so I'm not confused, what we're looking at is a Tom Petty WITHOUT a signature--right? That fireglow piece is AWESOME. And you got it for $1095? With all due respect, how did you manage that? Is it a used piece? Anyone know the going street price and if they're still currently available? And, as if I haven't asked enough questions--does it stay in tune? :^>)

They are still being made. They get snapped up pretty quick. I'd keep an eye on the eBay auctions and the online dealers...going "new" street price is around $1500.00-1800.00, I think. (I paid $1275.00 for mine new a year and a quarter ago, but prices seem to have jumped a good deal.)

Paul's price range seems pretty realistic. I got my 660/12 a year ago. It's an '04 Turquoise 660/12. I'm a bass player (and part-time songwriting guitarist) who was looking for the ultimate 12-string electric for songwriting and recording. I was and am 100% happy with the 660/12. They are awesome guitars in every sense, and my hunch is that they are future classics (but who knows on that...).
My band recently recorded our second CD. Here's a picture of our guitarist borrowing my 660/12 to lay down some slide guitar.
Check 'em all out, but I would put forth the 660/12 as a great option. I love mine.
