Forgot to address this issue. Following cutting and silkscreening the black logotype, the plexi TRCs are batch-sprayed white.

So, since the sides are not masked off, there will be a certain amount of white which gets onto the sides. This is true also of gold TRCs. I've seen variations with almost none and recently received a gold TRC (on an exchange deal) that had so much gold overspray on its edges that I had to sand the edges and respray them, to get it to look normal.

Brian, I'm not surprised their machine failed. The machine at my local paint store failed miserably to match some enamel for one of my machines, and I eye-matched it in less than five minutes.

BTW, all my custom-color finishes (like Melissa's Purpleburst and a few others I'm working on currently) are mixed by eye. My eye, as my old man used to say.

Some folks are blessed with innate talent for such things. Machines are there for the rest of us, but they're no real substitute.

Another reason Paul's latex suggestion is good, is because the two paints will age differently and you may want to redo it in the future. Like 25 years from now when our 360v's are worth $10,000.

People have been doing this technique along time. I would say that half of my 60's Rics have been touched up by someone. The color is so off on most, that I can only image that the paint aged differently.

Waxed paper - brilliant! And thanks for the info about the TRC edges too. I was thinking about it and I think it'd be near impossible to polish those edges (after sanding the paint off) to a real clear shine anyway. I'll just leave the new one as-is.

In fact, they are VERY easy to polish, though it's non-original.

Sand the edges with #400 Wet or Dry sandpaper. Use it dry, and sand parallel with the edge, not across it. Then move on to #1000. Next, a soft cottom cloth with a dab of rubbing compound rub the edge only, again in a parallel direction. It'll come up shiny in a matter of seconds.

You can also use this method for pickguards as well.
