Oh yes, they are high tension John. I always had to tune down when using them. I've switched over to Thomastik Infeld; alot better tone and tension.

TI's also tend to be not quite as costly as Pyramids.

Your right about that Kris. I think the bass strings are going for over $50.00! Of course, they last forever it seems. That mite be still a good deal.

I love TI flats on my bass... I didn't know they made a 12 string set... or do you have to make one up somehow?

How does one do this?

Yes John, you have to make up your own set. Hopefully they will put together some sets in the future. I buy mine from juststrings.com. They have a section on buying single strings.

What is the TI tension like? Is it comparable to the rickenbacker strings?

OK, I looked on just strings, seems easy enough. What guages do you use? I tried to match up to the rick set but there are no .042 For the low e.

Custom Jazz Swing solid nickel flatwound TI string set for RIC 12 string;

39W - 25W

This is as close to the original 60's Maxima set as it gets.

As far as the tension, I believe they are lower in tension than the RIC set. It's been a while since I've played the RIC brand.

I made up a set of TI Flat Jazz/Swing singles for my 360/12 CW - really low tension!

A little light I know, but I have a light touch. The CW sounded a little harsh with the (original) Ric strings. We'll see...
Only problem is the "R" tailpiece is bent at the low "A" string - gotta get a replacement before I can finish the restringing. Ugh!

I've got toasters on one and Higains on the other. Both sound great with the T.I.s. BTW, on my 381, I've had the same set on since Aug of '05! Still going strong.

A little tip: Let the strings settle in for a few days. They sound very close to rounds for the first few days. Gotta' let 'um settle down a bit.
