It doesn't have the deeper bass and the tubbiness that the Hofner often has. It does have that upper mid richness without a lot of overtones that the RIC so often has. I always thought it was the RIC, so its nice to see he confirmed it in the article.

Guys, listen to the bass while George sings "I don't want to leave her now You know I believe and how".... IMHO it clearly sounds Ricky with a little amount of strings mute

call me crazy, i still find it hard to believe Paul tuned his E-string down... but, he's the man.

Absolutely no tuning down on this on. Song is in the key of C and all notes are from a naturally tuned 4 sring. Don't be surprised if this was recorded with his Jazz bass. The muted sound has traits of the Rick Hofner and Jazz., IMO>

Levykev may be right... there's a Low D at the end of the middle eight right after singing the last "I don't know", before the guitar solo...
Strange thing, because in other moments during the song, the bass never goes under Low E, even if would have been "natural" considering the bass lines played by Paul.. in those cases he just goes up to the "regular" D

To me it's an acoustical deception. He comes from the low F and E and goes up to the normal D.
There is a piano playing,too, but to me he plays the normal D. Please listen to the right stereo channel, it is almost only vocals and bass.

If he tuned down to D, why only use it for that solitary D? I think someone's ears need to be de-waxed.
