Basically Kevin, I really want to see the return of full length crushed pearl inlays. But it aint gonna happen is it...and I think this fact has subconsciously frustrated a lot of people leading to the silliness.

I like the CP too, checkered binding...and I didn't like those things at all back when I couldn't afford a Rick. I didn't get the 4002 concept, or rather, I didn't like the aesthetics, but all that has changed.
Oh well, I'd love to have a 4080/12 in Amber FG with checkered binding, etc, but that ain't happenin' either.

RIC has to work on getting the backlog managed & down to a reasonable length of time before a lot of new stuff could surface.
As it is we've gotten quite a bit of goodies already this year!
My only advice is to have patience.

I've been working on my formula for CP. Here is a test board I did using material I made a while back. The fragments are too large but it was a good exercise. The material below it is stuff I made a few days ago. It has much smaller particles.

Looks bitchin', Ted. Are you making this in sheet form and then cutting it up for inlays? If so, I'd like a small piece for evaluation against the rescue pearl stuff.

Sure Paul. I send it off right away. I suspect that I will have to go even smaller with the particles but the current batch looks pretty good. The stuff cuts very easily on a bandsaw BTW. The resin remains somewhat pliable after it sets.

Thanks, Ted. It would be cool to use your pearl in my restos, and I have one coming up very soon that could use it. I'd much rather give you the business (so to speak) than someone whom I don't know.

I missed the thread that started all this so maybe I'm unnecessarily concerned about the forum's future direction, but I'm really hoping things don't go too far the other way either. After all, I love coming here to read and contribute to open and honest discussion about Rickenbackers. As long as any criticisms are discussed in an objective manner then I think that would be beneficial to all of us, including RIC (for future product development). There's no point in this becoming a "glowing praise only" forum.

And, totally subjectively, but no less rationally, here's how it breaks down in my mind:

When a critique of an instrument or feature is brought up by a member in this Forum, assuming that it is a legitimate point, it then is fair game for the comments of participating Forum members.

It is the responsibility of the member who raises the critical point to:

1) Vet the authenticity of the critical issue (hopefully it is an area of that member's personal experience);

2) Present the critique in as clear and objective terminology as is possible, so his or her meaning is unquestionable;

3) Answer the queries of Forum members who wish more details or clarification.

It is the responsibility of Forum members to maintain their own objectivity, in the interest of critical threads not moving into flaming, either of other members or of the product or feature under consideration.

"Flaming" is defined by by the Hi-Tech dictionary as "posting angry or inflammatory messages" in the context of a newsgroup (or in this case, Forum).

If any member, be he (she) poster or responder, does not post responsibly, things fall apart rapidly, IME.

Responsible posting and courteous discussion bring out the best in critical thought, which keeps any Forum from becoming a mouthpiece of the manufacturer.

I want to read about, and discuss, positive aspects of my favorite guitars, and also learn about their foibles. I'm reasonably sure that this is why most of us frequent this URL.

Robert, I disagree, since that horse failed to be exercised enough to kill it.

Clarification is the essence of rational debate. My above post took almost a half-hour of thinking and careful wording in order to be as un-inflammatory as possible. It asked for the same careful consideration from Forum members. Flip remarks are inappropriate at this juncture, IMO.

We can all learn from each other, as no one of us is an expert in every area. The comradeship of this forum is at least as important as the experience. As long as we try to remember that, then we should be able to steer clear of trouble.
The humour in many posts keeps us coming back as much as anything else, I think, so we also have to remember that most jabs are really not intended to offend & should be taken lightly.
We all have bad days at work or whatever & can lose our tempers quickly at times, just try & take a moment before posting in haste.

While our guitars & basses may not be absolutely perfect in every respect, we can & should help each other (& RIC) improve them & ourselves if possible. I think we are all intelligent enough to know the difference between constructive & destructive criticism, so Peter's message here is to keep it constructive & helpful.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Oh I know Paul....but can't we just forget it? It's clear that you always put a great deal of thought into your postings and it is widely appreciated, but can't we just all get along? I seriously doubt that Peter was trying to, wanted to (or is even able to) cause damage to RICs excellent rep.
