If John is willing to take on an additional five years, and Bob is willing to give up five years, it is fine by me.

Sounds fair, Peter. I'll hope that Bob will still chime in to add whatever he considers relevent, he's owned a lot of stuff from this period...

Whoops. I said I didn't mean to cause any trouble! Actually, the only reason I asked was because my first Rick was a '79.

No trouble at all Glenn. It is an acceptable rationale and the topic titles have been adjusted accordingly.

Indeed, it was a change for the better.

For me, the cutoff is 1972.

...so if I ever have anything to say about a Ric made between 1973 & 1984, I'll put it in the 1985+ category.

Well, whaddya know. I influenced a change in the Rick Forum! Image

Now my '84 330 is officially vintage! (I bought it brand new w/case for $590 + tax in May '84.)

What about C series guitars? Are they accurate to the point of being vintage? Or are they a new category. "Instantly vintage?"

Now I can't belong to the modern era 'til I get a new Rick! (joking)

I don't need an excuse, just the money!

I thought 79 was a good cutoff point, 4003's were started in 1980 and a period of flux in their products started around that time also. 72-73 was also another big transition phase.

Don't worry guys, I bought my first new Rickenbacker in 1979, so I have a hard time thinking it's a vintage piece! LOL...

This is great, because although my first Ric was a brand new 4001JG in '78, my oldest gtr now is a 360WB FG from '84.

'84 was the last year of X bracing?
