Pekka; A 370 it is, I used to have one, but got rid of the 18" pretty quick and got an acoustic twin 15, and then put a a pair of k140's and it was ok, but I should have picked the svt at the time..1973..much better sounding amp!

Pekka, my 4000 doesn't sound quite like any 4001/4003 (treble pickup only) I've ever heard; obviously it's in the ballpark but it seems quite a bit more aggressive, possibly due to the set neck, as has been suggested before.

So if I were to consider selling my 4000 (unlikely but possible), seems there may be a tad more interest than before....hmmm. I really do fancy another 8 string....

Shaun, I forgot they are set necks. I've never tried (or seen) one. Just a guess.

Not many famous 4000 players out there. Phil Lynott, Harry Kakouli (Squeeze), B.T. Turner (BTO) and Pete Trewawas (early Marillion). Any others?

Pekka, there are in fact both through-necks and set necks as you're probably aware, but I've never played a through-neck. I'd be very interested to. Of course my bass may just sound that bit different as an individual instrument and not because it's a 4000, but one or two other Forum members seem to have had the same experience with their 4000s.

I've seen a picture of Paul Gray (ex Damned, UFO) using one I believe..but that's about it for me.....

Leon Wilkeson is pictured inside the first Skynyrd album playing a Jetglo 4000. He didn't play the bass lines on that album though, Ed King did for some reason.

I have had 4 model 4000's. 3 of them were neck through. 1 set neck. They are a great bass. In fact I could say a completely different animal than a 4001/3. Also, I am a big fan of the S body. Man, If only I could have ALL the RIC's I have owned and sold, back. It would take an entire room LOL.....

The S body is fantastic, it's how the 4000 should be... they started like that, the quintessential shape.

I have to say that I prefer Stanley on the Alembic. Just finished listening to the "School Days" solo and the way that thing just "honks" at you after the harmonic opening is pure joy.

Stanley playing any one of his Alembics is my favourite solo tone by a long way....every single note just floors me.
