Welcome docbass. I have tried a number of different makes of bass strings, however, I must also say that for the Beatles' or British Invasion sound the Pyramid Flats are excellent. The Pyramids have a comfortable feel and for all practical purposes last forever.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Hi Peter, thanks for the welcome and help getting in! I am so impressed with the versatility of the Ric bass. The 4 controls and the 3-way switch make this bass capable of so many different sounds, it's become my favorite solid-body bass. The Pyramids also seem to be flexible enough to sound bright and alive or deep and McCartney-like with a flip of the pickup switch. I really enjoy this kind of change up capability in a bass. My Fender jazz just can't do all of the things the 4003 can.
As you said, I hope the Pyramids last a long time. I almost didn't buy them but the salesguy who sold me the bass talked me into them (he uses 'em too on his Ric). I'm glad I listened to him!
Thanks again!

I like Rotosound RS77 Jazz Bass Flats on my 4001V63, and I love them. They have a nice bright sound, but still have a smooth feel. As much as I have sung the praises of these strings, Rotosound ought to give me my strings free. Oh well, I'll keep dreaming!
I recently went back to playing a Rickenbacker bass. Its like meeting an old friend again

Hi Randy,
Well, I've had the Pyramids on for over a week now and have played out with them twice. They are really sweet strings on the 4003. I can't believe how bright they are for a flat wound string. I did have Rotosound flats on a shortscale bass once, it didn't work.
So, the Pyramids definitely will stay on for the long haul!

Hi William,
I have a 4001V63, and at first thought about trying the Pyramids. However, I had heard about how thumpy and thuddy they were, and with the hefty price tag and the sound discription, I wasn't willing to risk the purchase. I like the way the Rotosounds work on my V63. But that is just personal preference. You are the first person I've ever heard to describe the Pyramids as bright sounding flats!
Best to you,
Randy

I've been using Fender Med. light Stainless flats on my Rics, I like the high tension and the sound (very clear with a nice bottom) but worry about the tension on the necks, has anyone compared the Pyramid flats with the Fenders? I tried the Rotosound flats , I bought two sets and both had dead G strings ( on different basses)and were so bright that if I want that sound I'll put roundwounds on. Incidently I have Ric roundwounds on a 4001 and they sound great, and play very nicely, I wish that they were stocked at the guitar Center.

HI Randy,
Well, I had TI flats on my Fender American jazz bass a while back and they were definitely dull. Not much tone or definition. I took them off and put rounds back on. As for the 4003, I played out with my group last week and the tone cut right through everything.
I do believe a lot has to do with the mix of all of the variables in an instrument. The main difference I see between my 4003 and my jazz are the pickups. The 4003's are stronger and have more tonal variety with the 4 control knobs and the 3-way switch. This setup coupled with the Pyramids seems to really be just right based on my ear. I went right from the stock Ric round wound strings to the Pyramids and I don't think I lost much in terms of brightness at all. Did I lose a little? Sure, it's the nature of the string. But, not much!
They'll stay on as long as they have little extra bit of twang to 'em!
