OK....mine sounds basically like my other 4004's. Traditional Ric with better lowend response.

I was on the waiting list for five years; I'm very glad I tend to be the patient sort!

I'll try to get some photos taken this weekend (I need to borrow the camera).

Soundwise, there's a big variation between the pickup switch settings. With the switch up, it sounds pretty close to a standard 4001/4003 sound, but with the switch down, there's a huge low end that I've never heard out of those models. Makes me think a bit of the Thunderbird sound (which makes sense, since Lemmy liked to put T-bird pu's in his Rics). I've never played any of the "standard" 4004 models, so I can't make a comparison there.

I have to admit that the look is not the sort of thing I usually "go for", but I am still awed by it (and I think it's growing on me). Another big difference between it and the 4001/4003 is that there's no heavy finish, so the neck feels different (and a guitarist friend pointed out that the neck has more finish by the body joint than up by the headstock for the "pre-worn-in" feel). The bridge is different, too (not sure if it's the standard 4004 bridge); the bass arrived with good action & intonation, so I haven't adjusted it, but it looks more user-friendly than the 4001/4003 bridge.

And, since this was the first Ric I've purchased new, it was my first experience of being blasted in the face with Ric-O-Smell when opening the case for the first time!

Doug, I recently experienced Ric-O-Smell for the first time, I loved it! Congrats on a great new bass!

Doug, congrats and enjoy that LK!!

Here is a pic of an area from an unfinished LK hand carving, which looks (to me) like a fine example of work by a gifted craftsman...something unfortunately lacking in all kinds of most modern day merchandise.

Don't know why, I found the tuba crack rather hurtful.

Lets she you drag one of those bad boys around!

Just jealous cause we got all the chicks!

Does a tuba have a tone?
