Charly, if you try to Dremmel off the buttons, the heat will melt the top of the pickup.

Would "debuttoning" a high-gain cause a subsequent drop in output? Because I hate the click of strings hitting the buttons (I play hard, and whenever I try to play lighter, it destroys my sound and my technique), and I'm wondering if the only difference would be lack of polepieces to hit; if there's no noticeable output or sound difference . . . hmmmmmmm.

I originally got the un-buttoned high gain idea from a guy in Hawaii who was doing this. He wasn't even replacing the pole pieces and said his customers loved them. Jeff Rath added the iron slugs to mine just to be on the safe side. I think they are the best of both worlds. Vintage looks and good, hot, clear tone.

Got it Dane, and Robert, I used to have the same problem, til I put the B2RE into a 4 ohm 4x10 cab. I'm punching through like crazy and hardly have to strike the strings. For the first time in my life, I don't feel beat up after a half hour!

Jared - being fairly new here I'm not up on what you make - are the shoes you make magnetized or decorative? Someone mentioned aluminium and that means decoration. Just want to be clear on this...

Are those the proper magnets found in correct Horse-Shoe pick-ups ?? If so, I can analyze the magnets and do a BH loop of them...then I can start making them available for those who need them, since Ric won't do it....

it may be a pickup from a rickenfaker ... but it does not resemble a horseshoe pickup ...

Its already been done Chris. Look up any posts on Jason Lollar's horseshoe repacement pickups that might still be around on this board. I think RIC didn't like it very much either and tried or is still trying to protect their trademark and/or patent on it too.

A couple people have the Lollar pickups and might be able to tell you how they sound. I haven't heard the one I have yet so I can't tell you.

Jared, what if we all pitch in and rent you an indoor space, dry, wired with industrial wiring, so you can crank out about 30 of those? Then you can go back to working on the ark.

Thanks Jared. Nice work! That would make a regular bridge pup look like a horseshoe, which is what I believe RIC is doing with the new reissue horseshoesif I understand all this correctly. They are not using magnets for shoes, but are using the under coil magnet like the high gains. Anyone here know if the reissue horseshoe is using the same magnet slab as the high gains (dimensions and strength)? And what resistance reading the coil on the reissue is wound to?

Here is a pic of a 1973 bridge pup - measures 8.05k and obviously has a larger magnet then the current high gains. Looks like a ferrite type magnet, not the plastic ones used now. Anyone have input on this? I don't mean to be a pain, but the changes the bridge pickups went through is fascinating.
