Yeah either the check is bad or is from an account the info was stolen from. My friend got grilled by FBI at a bank because he tried to cash a check in a similar situation.

Thanks guys.
It feels so good to part of this forum. I love this place.

I replied to the last e-mail by stating Paypal only and that I will not have anyone pick it up but rather I would need to drop it off and will need the name and location of his shipping agent and the phone number of the seller.
No reply. Go figure. Rat *******.

I'm not desperate to unload the bass but the idea of being in debt with the IRS is really a dirty feeling so I would just like to pay them off ASAP and leave me alone and the only way is to sell one of my basses. :-(

Thanks again, You guys ROCK!!!

This type of scam has been going around for a while now. Sometimes the check is REAL, but from someone who also got scammed. The person sending YOU the check just bought something of greater value (on ebay or elsewhere) and was instructed to send YOU the money and would wait for their purchase. They'd wait a while and it would NEVER come. They would try to contact the person they bought from only to find they are not reachable. They now turn to YOU because that's where they sent the money. Even though you were an unwilling, or should I say nieve participant, you would have to give them back the money, or face charges. So in the end you lose the money AND the bass.

makes sense.

That would explain why they offer you more $$$ than you asked for (and then they hope you are dumb enough to send the difference to the "shipping agent"). It would be interesting to look for a completed auction on Ebay that ended at 3150$.

Edgar, you should send copies of all correspondences with full headers to [email protected] - make sure that you put NO LOSS at the start of the Subject line.

I always go one step more and send a complaint to the scammer's ISP (based on the originating IP address revealed in the full headers) as well as to the ISP providing the scammer with e-mail service.

Something else that got my radar up was the name Morris Elaine, which sounds backwards. A company I used to work for was scammed once by someone using a name that was spelled incorrectly(!). Also, as far as I know only the U.S. uses the word "check" rather than the "proper" ;-) spelling of "cheque", so I'd question the true origin of the e-mailer. Anyways, well-spotted and best of luck selling that honey of a bass!

Okay,
I listed the bass up on the Bay and so far the e-mails I'm getting are from people that don't have paypal and want to send me a cashier's check. Pretty much the same scenario as before.
Some from overseas. Even though I've stated on the auction, paypal only and no overseas buyers.

What is going on here. I've been doing ebay since '97 and I've never encountered scammers at this rate. Very discouraging, but I'm still persistent.

:( I WISH I ordered a Blueburst FL....I got the AFG instead....Beautiful bass, but Blueburst really grew on me!

I sold mine, very nice color. If it would have had the wings I'd have kept it.
