George had stopped using the Rosewood Tele by then. My notes are packed, but I'm almost certain he had given the guitar to Delaney before they started the Abbey Road sessions. His guitar of the moment by Abbey Road was the red Les Paul.

Also, having played George's Tele, I can tell you it didn't have any 'chime' to it. The bridge pickup sounded thin and flat. Probably the reason he gave it away.

Are we even sure it was George playing that part? It was an overdub. McCartney typically did the guitar overdubs on his songs by this point. It sounds more like Macca's Esquire to me.

Scott: I like your theory. Shortly after this thread began, I heard a McCartney song on the radio and the sound reminded me of this overdub. Of course I can't recall what tune it was, because my mind was elsewhere, but I started thinking that McCartney may have played it. By the way, I noticed that you've suddenly popped up here on the forum after a long absence. Welcome back. Your comments are always very well-informed.

I was thinking McCartney / Esquire, and about the timing of George giving away his Tele this morning too!

Still, to me, it sounds Rick'ish. Maybe not a 12'er, but Rick'ish none the less.

Definitely hearing a lot of McCartney style leads on this album.

Randy: Perhaps you heard "Maybe I'm Amazed" (the studio version, not the live Wings take). Right before and during the guitar solo, especially the one at the end. I recall an arpeggio-type riff in there. I'm not sure, but I think "Back Seat of MY Car" from "Ram" might have one, too. It's definitely a Paul-like lick. Unfortuantely all my MAcca CDs are at home and I'm at work.

Dave: I'm sure it was 'Maybe I'm Amazed'. The oldies station plays it a lot. I just couldn't recall where that guitar part was in the song. You nailed it!

Well, I play bass and my son's name is Paul (and not by accident). I'd better be able to nail it. I still prefer the studio version of MIA to the live cut.

I believe George gave his Tele to Delaney after he toured with them in Dec 69

I've always enjoyed the guitar solo on MIA. It jumps out of the speakers!

Sounds like a doubled, thin-sounding (bridge PU) that could've been run through effect such as the leslie. Very "chorusy". It sounds like a Ric 12, I think, more due to the arpeggio style playing. It lends itself to that. Certainly would've sounded cool with a real one!
