I hadn't heard Ha Ha... by either band, until recently on a college British Invasion show. I was surprised when I did hear the Yardbirds version, as I was familiar with their other "heavier" hits, and a fan. Ha Ha... is unlistenable to me. Shocked me to discover it to be the Yardbirds. I wonder if around this point British and American pop radio went separate ways as well. So many songs I hear on that British Invasion show I've never heard, and all by major artists.

But the fact that Manfred Mann also covered Ha Ha... says something about what was an acceptable release in those days. And to me says something about the Yardbirds appearing to veer off into another, less true to their roots, direction.

Happenings Ten Year's Time Ago is one of my favorite Yardbirds tunes, and right in step with what was going on musically here on the left coast at the time.

It is really amazing the contrast For Your Love with some of the other Yardbirds numbers. Classic Yardbirds, to my way of thinking can be heard in The Nazz Are Blue.

Nazz is Blue is probably how The Yardbrds wanted to be perceived Peter but I find tracks like this self indulgent, just my view I accept, I much prefer the tracks that were commercially more acceptable.

Mr Zero was in actual fact Peter the first of three solo singles by Keith Relf, it is possible a couple of other members may have been on the track but it was credited to him alone.

For those who have an interest in the blues, Nazz is an interesting release. I confess, at least in the beginning, being partial to their hits, perhaps in part because I did not have any familiarity with their other material.

I've always loved them through the different styles they did. I'm Not Talking was always a favorite as was Ain't Got you, although Jimmy Reed's version is really good too. I'm a Man was always my favorite and was the first one I ever heard. I loved the "rave ups" in the middle of their earlier stuff. They did great rocked up blues covers. I may like the Page version of the band because they were hits when I was a kid and Page's guitar playing is always great to me wherever I hear it. The verse to Little Games really rocked, the whole song sounded like their typical idiosyncratic style to me, Clown less so, but still had it for me once you got by the initial commercial sound of it.
Page is a great and very original sounding guitar player irregardless of his rep and of some of the situations he's played in.

Yeah, Post Happenings Roy please, along with Little Games. How about I'm not Talking? I can remember trying to play that one when I was a teenager in my first bands, haha!

Roy: Do you recall hearing "I Wish You Would", the Yardbirds' first release? To me it was likely recorded with the success of the Rolling Stones in mind. I would be interested in your thoughts. Apparently it did not chart.

"Little Games" had a big influence an me, as many years later I love throwing syncopated rhythms into a lot of what I play - that song certainly fascinated me as a kid!

Me too! Especially with the use of the tonebender, a pedal that was also used by Beck. Page also used this throughout the first Led Zep album. Same sound.

I wish you would Peter does haves tones of The Stones but apart from a few tracks never liked The Stones so this one does not appeal either
