I never met a Beatle, but I had an old girlfriend who once saw George Harrison (accompanied by someone else) on the streets of NYC in the mid 60s. She and her friend immediately gave chase but George and friend ducted into a department store and got away.

How's THAT for a lame 3rd party story!

My only rock star meeting was Keith Richards in Greenwich Village right at the time of his Canadian drug bust. He had gotten out of a white stretch limo accompanied by an (obviously professional) blond bombshell. My friend and I talked to him briefly after he came out of a little pottery store. "How's the drug case coming along" says us .... "oh man, I got it beat... got it beat, man" says him. I'll never forget it, but I'm sure Keef doesn't remember it because he was so loaded that he could hardly stand up.

I've never met any of the Beatles but I did get within 20 feet of them when they came to Melbourne in the 60s. I 'wagged' school and was standing in Little Collins Street when they came out onto the balcony of the Southern Cross hotel through a side exit.

Some Beatles trivia:

"For one night in 1964, there were five Beatles in Melbourne.

Ringo flew into Melbourne on 14th June, 1964 having recovered from a tonsillectomy and his replacement drummer, Jimmy Nicol, flew back to England the following morning. Our research leads us to think that this meant that the Southern Cross hotel was the only hotel ever to play host to five Beatles."

I always thought of George Martin first when people mentioned the elusive "fifth" Beatle.

So here's yet another candidate eh Aitch? Four Beatles and a substitute Beatle in one place. That's way too cool.

I have no idea how tall Brian Wilson is, but he is not too much taller than Paul judging from the pictures of them together in Vegas as the "Love" opening. I never did find Brian's height listed online, but did find a couple of remembrances from people who met him and said he is quite tall.

Never met one, but saw all play as the Beatles.

My brother was working in a book store when Ringo came in looking for a book on John.

My brother gave him some other books, one on drumming, that Ringo was interviewed in (a book by Max Weinberg.) Not that Ring needed a book on drumming. But he was thankful for it.

its such a shame they got rid of the southern cross hotel hey harold..i remeber a few years ago they got a beatles tribute band to play on the roof there....

When I drove a cab in NYC (around 1975-6) I used to make a point of driving past the Dakota when I was in the neighborhood. Nope... never got lucky.

Yes, Harry. If The Nauru government hadn't basically gone bankrupt it would have been refurbished and remained a Melbourne icon regardless of it's new look.

It's now being developed as an office and retail hub by Multiplex. It would be nice if there was a plaque put up in the open public space acknowledging the significance of the site but I doubt that they would even think of it..... maybe I should drop them an email.

BTW, its 'Howard', Harry. Please don't confuse me with the guy in 'Neighbours', eh?

No worries at all, Harry. Everybody gets to make that mistake once. After that I send out my 'mates' to 'break a few things'.......

I met Brian twice, and he is at least 6'2".

I also once met MIKE McCartney, and he was also at least 6'1" or 6'2". He was a very nice man, probably because I didn't mention Paul once, and presented him with a copy of the "McGear" LP to sign!

i have never heard anything by pauls brother, is it worth checking out glenn?
