McCartney's Yamaha is a BB1200. I've got a right-handed one in the same "Brown Stain" finish (Yamaha's color designation).
Loaded with D-Addario ProSteels, it sounds much like a P-bass, but with a little more bite to it. Maybe that's because the coil closest to the bridge is the E/A coil instead of the D/G coil like on a typical P-bass.

The Wal was used extensively on his Flowers In The Dirt Tour. At that time he alternated between that and his Hofner, with the Wal seeing the majority of the action. 15 years on, he has gone back to the Hofner exclusively when playing live----the weight of the Hofner probably plays a bigger role now, along with its legendary status.

Alvaro, do you have a photo?
I've got one, but it's too big for me to post... anyone care to re-size and post it for me? I'm not too good with the Photoshopping.

Paul used his "free" Yamaha BB1200 during the Back to the Egg era. LOTS of pic's available and video. It actually had a very great sound. Goodnite Tonite is a great example. Yamaha gave free BB series to major artists when they were developing a market.

"Goodnite Tonite" is one of my faves from that period. Caught him on the 79 tour at the Rainbow playing the Yamaha.

I have a great photo of Macca with his Wal in concert. Janet Macoska was the photographer and she has some really great shots that I have printed for her over the years at my lab.

I had a WAL 5 String bass. The exact same as Macca's except RH. I thought it was a cool bass but it was one heavy hunk of wood. I sold it to stock up on the "C" Series instruments. I will admit that for such a nice bass, I don't really miss it.
I wouldn't mind finding the Yamaha bass. They seem hard to come across though. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough.
