Here's an early '73 that was sadly stripped of it's original finish. At some point I'm going to contact paul about returning it to it's former Azureglo-ry.

Striped just like Steve's but a 73, with the CB. I do not have this one anymore.

That one looks like it had some nice wood on it Dave.

Andrew, it pained me to sell it.

Nice wood for sure.

Without the MOP inlays, I just could not justify the cost of a full restro.

Hey Steve-
Yup, it was sawed off. Go figure.
Ouch is right.
The neck also had the finish sanded off....
Nice looking finger board too. Very sad.
Sadder still is I'm not sure I can re-do it in Azure.
Sure I could, but I'm just not into the color....

I'll tell you guys something---after seeing the 365 O.S. that Paul refined in AZG, I started thinking what my 4001 LH would look like in that finish rather than Burgundyglo.....I am super-satisfied/ecstatic with the way it turned out in BG, but the 365 looked fabulous...If I ever take on another early lefty 4001 to restore, I think it'll have to be AZG.

John, I wonder if someone had some kind of "relationship issues"? I once saw a bass covered in small gouges and was told the owners girlfriend had attacked it with a screwdriver after a row! Or maybe they just carried away with a Who-type finish to a gig....makes me cringe to think of doing that to such a beautiful bass!

Whatever you do I'm sure it'll be great, although it would be a shame if it wasn't redone azure....

John, I thought the same thing about my 72 bass after seeing the AZG 365OS. Mine was BG originally, but I still think PW's Purpleburst will get the vote...

Hmmm...either one would look great, but that bass would look awesome in AZG...

BTW I like the white switch tip on that bass Andy..The new/old BG bass of mine has one too, I'm assuming it's an original part...I've seen a few more from this era with them..

It's a short one John, like from a Gibson. I'm not too sure that is an original...

Is your whitey the stock Rickenbacker length?
