"The bridge high-gain is very hot by comparison". Well, a treble-pass capacitor would address the issue very nicely, also making your 4003 sound like it's supposed to...

Also, if you try & raise the neck pup farther than it should you will crack the pickguard, just like the previous owners of my 4001 & 4080 have done. The space between the screws that hold the assembly together at the corners allow you to over tighten the height adjustment screw & crack the guard.

Kevin - my 2004 has a rubber grommet on the height screw to space it the same as the corner screws and hopefully not crack the guard. I don't know if that is standard through the years or a recent addition.

It is not a recent addition. Replacing it with a small coil spring would be a smart move indeed.

Actually, I think mine had small lengths of a rubber tube similar to surgical tubing. I found one in the neck pup cavity of my 4001. Someone obviously removed them when destroying the pickups at one time. The height adjustment screws were the wrong type also.
The cracks in the pickguards are there now anyway.
Just abuse by some fools who didn't appreciate a fine instrument.

Sérgio...would this be the same as the new push/pull feature?

Yes.
