The 1997 is my #1 six string.

The 1997's are definitely nice Rics. I have one in Mapleglo. I also like the 21 fret necks over the 24 fret ones. I rarely if ever need to go that high up the fret board. The way that the 24 fret neck is set into the body combined with the re-location of the neck pickup just doesn't sound or look right to me.

I tried a 360v64 against a standard 360 with hi-gains. Is the 360v64 similar in tone to a 1997 ? I found the sound to be thin in comparison to a modern, hi-gain-equipped 360, but that is a sample of one. I particularly like the 370, 3 pick-up version, also, but do not own one of those either, I saw a cool one in midnight blue, but I'm sort of stocked already, with 4 Rics. I think I agree with Tony about which Rics sound best, even though he plays his through a Marshall - ugh ! Anyway, sorry for the tangent.

Steve, i'd say the two are similar. Toasters do indeed sound "thinner" than higains.

One person's thinner is another's 'more detailed'. Sound is too subjective perhaps. My 360V64 has one of the best lead sounds I've ever heard. Though I've parted with each of them, I always liked my hi-gain Rics. 21 fret, toaster-equipped Rics speak to me.

Well Jerry, I've been wondering what to do, but at the UK confluence, Mike Smith had a drop dead gorgous 650C in monty brown, but one which he had 'golded'. Gold pickguard, knobs, pickup surrounds, tuners...everything. Totaly stunning. I tried it through the Marshall & it sounded superb, it would never be my main gtr, but it certainly offers something that I don't have. Mike has offered me a great deal, which I am very seriously (to the point of almost certainly) considering. I didn't want to just sell the 1997 & was looking for a trade, so this could be a deal that works for me.

If I imagine it as a VERY deep FG, then I could, in time, perhaps accept it!
