thanks for the input guys, I decided I will wait till a better 4001 shows up altho I could have lived with the damage...I'm looking for a bass not art to hang up on the wall. Steve if you want to get that MG 4003 go right ahead...mapleglow ain't my thing, neither is a 4003. I want a 4001 cause it usually has a thinner neck than a 4003 which is essential to me cause I have small hands plus I like the "capped sound".

If you're open to the 4004 experience, Chris Pappas has one on the bay:

From all accounts, he's a great guy to deal with,
& the price is pretty good.

Yea I was the guy that paid $1200 for the 4004 Cii, I'm constantly contributing to rick inflation. I bought the 73 4001 burgandyglo MD XXXX back in 2004 when I hit the $1799 BIN and you all talked about it(rick inflation). I wonder what its worth now? I'm a sucker for buy it nows. I've never won an ebay aution outright, I got my *** kicked on that Blackstar auction, $4200 for a Blackstar? How can you go wrong buying a Scott/Pappas bass with all the tasty mods. I'd been ichin for an unbound rick and then that thing shows up. I fought the urge, I left the house to go do something hoping someone else would have hit the BIN. I came home and prayed that it wouldn't be there, but it was. My hands trembled as I reached for the mouse and steered it towards the jackpot, one click and it was all over. Anyway, to achieve balance in my universe, my 2002 4003 jetglo is for sale, and remember its only money and you can't take it with you.

I can vouch that the BIN button is very tempting. I got my all-original 1966 340 FG for $900 plus shipping using BIN, and just the other day I picked up a Korg D1600v40 16-track digital recorder with a gimpy hard drive for $299 using BIN with free shipping. Couldn't pass that up!

You know I probably wouldn't have considered this bass with the humbuckers in it, but I really dig the walnut/maple sandwich body and somebody had already "converted it". I wonder what this would sound like with a de-buttoned toaster covered hi-gain in the bridge position? What about walnut headstock wings?

Mark....that's funny, I probably would have snatched it up if it still had the humbuckers. Don't get me wrong, I have played your new bass and the action is fantastic and it has great tone but my rig is set up to take advantage of the stock 4004 p/u's and the single coils/toasters sound weak as it is adjusted. Switching back and forth between my current 4004's and Jeff/Chris' ex would be a problem.
Enjoy your killer new 4004!
