Dave Gregory of XTC played a 360/12 with hi-gains in the early 1980's, and the Smithereens played a number of Rickenbackers with hi-gains as well. The only Smithereens guitar with toasters I ever saw was Pat's Townshend limited edition guitar in a video. I think Jim Babjak used an early Rick jazzbo guitar once in a video too. In the 90's, one of the best players of a 360 with hi-gains was Adam Devlin of the Bluetones. Check out their 1st album, namely the song "Bluetonic". After hearing him, I went out and bought a Fireglo 360 just like his. However, I switched to 370's with toasters a few years ago and simply coudn't go back to the hi-gains. The 360 was sold in 2004. I still like to hear the hi-gains as played by other people, but I've got to have toasters when I play. Think of modern indie pop songs with the heavy compression sound of the Byrds' "Fifith Dimension" album, and you've got my live sound, primarily using a 370 six-string with toasters.
