I like Magic Carpet but Martin's arrangement as you point out probably makes the tune.

I have seen The Dakotas on a number of package tours over the last few years where they do their own spot of about 4/5 numbers but they never play Cruel Sea, of course only Mike Maxfield was with the band in their hit period and I am not certain he is still with them as John McNally told me he has been very ill of late.

I just had the chance to view the Shadows 2004 Farewell Tour once again today and I must say that I recommend this to anyone who enjoys music of the 1960s and beyond.

I cannot get over the great vocals from a group that is known for their instrumentals. I enjoyed my second viewing of this DVD more than the first.

Roy: By the way, perhaps you have commented on this before, but I have a memory that Mike Maxfield had a sister in the music business, Elkie, perhaps. Can you fill me in on the details?

Very close Peter the lady was Elkie Brooks who enjoyed some success in UK as a solo artist, used to front a band called Vinegar Joe early in her career, songs like Pearl's A Singer, Lilac Wine, Fool, No More The Fool, but her brother was not Mike but Tony Mansfield who was Dakotas drummer. Their actual name was Bookbinder. (not surprised they changed it)
