OK, Aitch, then. How many TOTAL instruments do you have all together?
(This way I can also go to my wife and say "See, honey? I'm not anywhere near as bad as THAT guy.")
Gene, I think you'll find there are almost as many ways to store guitars as there are people.
I'm like Tony. I always have about three out at all times on the rack because I like looking at them. I also have the 360/12 MG out as much as possible because I'm trying to "age" the color/finish. Right now it is still a very light blonde.

Not
that many, Mark. I have 20 in total here but 15 or so of those are (in my opinion) quite valuable. The 9 Ricks certainly are!!
Two more in the US waiting for me.......

The secure storage is a wise move, particularly when travelling (as long as you have insurance coverage). Having Fenders & Gibsons make you a well rounded collector, or player, or both!
I think that the finish only really ages with time, unless you're using direct sunlight (which P.W. has said is not a good idea). His theory on the ph of the wood reacting with the CV makes sense. Of course, the more you play the guitar the better! That's what it's for.

Aitch, your two in the U.S. are your Monty 330 and your Gretsch, right? Or is there yet another Ric waiting for you?

Correct, Melibee. No other Ricks.
I'm having a bit of a rethink about which one will be travelling with me - Paul's going to hang on to both untill I arrive. If I decide to travel with the Gretsch then I have another issue to deal with - I'll be bringing a custom made flight case for the 330 with me!! Maybe the Gretsch will fit in OK with a heap of 'diaper stuffing' to protect it.
Insurance for stored goods is a very inexpensive and therefore almost mandatory add-on, Kevin. $1.50 per $1000 per month is pretty good value!

I've really got to check it out to see what it costs here. I'm in a small town, so they will probably look at me like I have 2 heads when I say I want to insure a couple of guitars.
I may be able to add them to my home policy.
