That FG 4001 is from around the 'Jive Talkin' period I think....

I wonder why MG had that 4001S refinished from FG to white? It's a great piece of rock music history.

Good question Randy! I'm wondering that too. Didn't seem too beat up. Just wanted a change I guess. Hey Wints, did you ever get to communicate at all with Maurice about the bass before his passing?

I believe that Maurice having had his 4001S refinished probably makes it an even greater piece of rock music history.

That's right Sergio. I also wonder who did the job. From what I've seen they did a very good job. Another good question is why Maurice parted with that bass to begin with.

Maybe he decided to buy a modern 4001?

Fran, sadly, I never got the chance to meet Maurice, even though I have spent plenty of time in Miami. I am sure it would have been an interesting conversation...
Why did he have it refinished? Well, it probably had a few scratches and dings in it before he got it. It would have been two years old, and he may have wanted something that no one else had.
He would have been 18 at the time and you do tend to do certain things on impulse at this age!
I would like to know who done the work too Randy. They did an excellent job.
Looking at their career, the boys have always had a thing for white it seems, so no real surprise this was the colour he chose. A very good one in retrospect....
Why did he let it go?
You see the bass up to about late 1969/70 or so, and then the next time he has the white 4001 deluxe on the cover of the 71 album. As Sergio says, I would imagine when Rickenbacker came out with a white finish at that time he simply bought a new one...
As ever guys, thanks for all your positive comments and continued appreciation of this piece of Rickenbacker and rock music history.
It makes me determined to get a detailed page up to do it justice.

That's the one on the cover of To Whom It May Concern. I remember the funny bridge assembly on it.

I've also seen Sérgio's name occasionally come up as S?rgio when using IE. I've never seen that when using Firefox. I guess IE can sometimes have a glitch with é. I prefer to use Firefox.

Right-click > Encoding > Western European (Windows)
That should fix it.
