Thanks, that does help. Since you gave me almost an eight month headstart, I should be able to make it.

It truly is sad the Clarks of Byrds fame were so short lived.

When I was in college I worked at a store in west LA with a spacey middle aged woman who worked in the ticket booth in the Whisky in the mid 60s.

She knew Michael in those days and said he was a crazy driver.

...and a lousy drummer! I sure did miss Geno, but wish they'd gotten themselves a better drummer from the get-go...

I had the pleasure of seeing Mike Clarke only one time - in about '70 or '71 - with the Burritos. I thought he was more than capable as a drummer. I realize that when The Byrds started recording he was a real novice, but with time he became quite proficient. King of the 4/4 for sure, but to keep up with Hillmans' bass he had to be on top of things...

Yes, one certainly can improve. I don't think he was too hot yet, though, by the time of M. Pop Festival, judging from the outtakes.

However, the sounds systems in those days being what they were, didn't help.

Did he play on the Burritos lps? There is some fine drumming on them.

Amazing video. Thanks J.W. Boy, I wonder what happened to John Byner. I remember he had a cable show in the early 80s.

I disagree with someone who posted on the site about not being into the tune. I think it's a great number.

Howdy,

That number "Older Guys" is so AM radio ready! Sounded to me like something from a Monkees album, and I mean that as a compliment.

The new Gram Parsons documentary, called Fallen Angel (by Gandulf Henning) has portions of a clip of the Byrds in Europe (early music video) doing, yet again, Mr. Spaceman, but with Parsons and Doug Dillard in the line-up. Pretty wierd....
