'OS' stands for 'Old-Style' to distinguish the old-style Capri-shaped 360 guitars from the newer 360's with rounded the rounded profile (if that's what you want to call it).

Randy: we know we're getting old when we reflect that the "new" style Rickenbacker 360s came out 41+ years ago!

OK, thanks for the confirmation guys. That's what I thought - that OS and WB were obviously the same thing - but did the factory have an official designation or differentiation of features? I don't totally agree that the "OS" necessarily indicates a late '60's vintage, because I think these were made into the '70's and early/mid '80's too - but I'm not sure about that.

And it's obvious that "WB" means With Binding to indicate the double bound 360's (which is only found on the "OS")

Just want to educate myself as to what features and changes happened in different years, and what years these guitars were produced. Obviously their production was along with "new style" 360's and the later V64's were more of a "refinement" of sorts. And the C63's are supposedly even "more refined" on the original design.

Howard, I'm sure you all will dig the pics when I get them posted. Hopefully tomorrow.

Steve: Rickenbacker used the 'OS' designation from the mid-60's until they started came up with the 'WB' designation (probably sometime in the early-70's).

Paul: Are you really getting older? You're gonna have to do something about that!

OK, Randy. I'll get right on it.

Steve, these were made into the early '80s. Then they were called "WB"s. Mine (a "WB") is an '82.

There's a fountain of youth in Teignmouth Howard, called the Ship Inn! After drinking copious amounts from it, all the women look younger & more desirable!!!

(sorry Melli, Sheena & Alisha Image)

Aitch,

I have a JG 360/12WB and a JG 360/6 V64. My WB has a bound slash hole (is that the correct term?) my V64 does not. The WB as some one has already noted has 24 frets. The V64 has 21. Therefore the pickup spacing is remarkably different. That of course means that the pickguard is also quite different. The newer WB's came stock with high gains pickups. My WB now has toasters on it.

The neck profile is subtly different but very close.

I will only buy 360's that are double bound. They are the coolest guitars ever made by any manufacturer. I love them. I also wish Rickenbacker still made them in a 6 string. I would love to have one in the COY.

I'm not sure. I've once asked my Dad (some 20 years ago), and he said it was my brain.
