My CIJ Geddy Jazz plays 95% as good as my '77 4001, but in a completely different way. The bass sounds amazing and strung with Chromes has a ton of range to it's sound. I say thank you to Marc Seligman every time I pick it up. Image

I have a couple of MIJ Strats and a MIA Strat and a couple of MIJ Squier Strats. The MIJ guitars are my favorite Fender products.

I did buy an Indonesian neck for one of my component Strats (ones that I built from used parts), it needed a fret dressing when I got it but other than that I am very happy with the quality and it was easy to set up.

And if Rickenbacker were to start farming out their guitar building to Japan or Mexico, would you still buy them and hold them in as high esteem as the American made Ricks?

MY CIJ Aerodyne Telecaster was FLAWLESS. I cannot say the same for other Fenders I've had...

My c. 1986 reissue Rosewood Telecaster was made in Japan, and it plays very nice ... and weighs a ton!

Kris, that will never happen. We have that on good authority.

The country of manufacture is not nearly as important as the skill level of the employees, quality of materials or the quality control of the division. It is a result of cutting corners in order to lower production costs on all of the above that give products from other countries a bad name.

The Japanese fenders I've played weren't bad, I had a Japanese Jazz bass special at one time, it was noisy though, but every MIM Fender I've ever tried played like a piece of plywood with strings nailed on it and sounded washed out, haha! ouch!

I played my MIM Jazz 5 tonight onstage, and it sounded INCREDIBLE. Very happy with that one!

I have a Jazz bass Special that is MIJ. I also have an old Aria Jazz copy MIJ.I think the craftmanship on both is far better than what I have seen from the american basses of the same time period. Both Jazz basses have been modified
to a great extent but as stock they were not bad at all.Two years ago I bought an '02 Jazz body MIM and with the exeption of the wiring rout from the neck pup it certianly has a great feel and quality
that I like.YMMV.
