That headstock is definitely weird shaped. I'd like better (clearer) pics.

Thanks John for confirming my original thought. Given your expertise in this area, you would know better than I would if there was something odd about the headstock.
Look at the nut as well. It's white.

James: Yes, it does not appear to be a 1978. How about some nice photos of this guitar, including the jackplate. It would also be nice to see under the truss-rod cover and the guard.
