Ya know there's always that occasional 2nd floor Fire House gig...

Does anyone here have a Vox T-100 cab from "North Coast Music" and if so, are you happy with it?

An 8 x 10 cab has the equivalent cone area of almost 4 15" speakers plus has the added advantage of lighter smaller cones which stop and start faster thus have a much tighter sound and an 8 x 10 is much smaller than a 4 x 15 cab. An 8 x 10 cab sounds better to me than two 4 x 10's. I don't think 4 x 10's are internally made the same way as SVT cabs which have four separate sealed chambers in them for each pair of tens. I'm 53 and have been using them for 30 years, nothing else compares to them, two is even better. And yes all the lazy bstd's will scatter when you pull up to the gig, you need to learn to move it yourself. I only need help going up and down stairs. I even have an SVT hauler: A mint 1995 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon.

I vote Ampeg 8X10. I don't know, but there aint nothin out there that sounds like that there one. I've seen lotsa 8X10's, Peavey, Madison, etc.. but Ampeg has somthin goin on with those darn things. They the cats MEow. Side bar, I have gone to using an older Fender dual showman 2-15" box loaded with some cheap *** tiewanise speaks that absolutly lays down for me ... YMMV....

I didn't know that there were 4 separate enclosures inside. I knew there was something special about them. All the 410 cabs I've seen are open inside. Are the Ampeg 810 cabs ported?
Most 410 cabs are that I have seen. It's interesting that the spell check doesn't like the spelling of Ampeg.

I'm with Jeff and use two 2 x 10 cabs. If I had a 4x10 i would get a 2x10 cab. You will then have three different cab configurations depending on the gig. Unless your amp is putting out over 900 watts you should be OK with a 4x10 and a 2x10 in the same rig.

I use a GK 4x10 and a Ashdown 2x10, both 8 ohm, they work and sound great,nice thump, and the whole rig rolls in on the 4x10 wheels. Can't beat that.

Before SVT there was mud then SVT showed the light.
Yeah they're sealed, and esentially are 4 2 x 10" cabs stacked which is another reason they are very tight, they are the granddaddy of all cabs using 10" speakers including 2 x 10's. Before them almost every bass cab in existence had a ported 15" with 2 x 15's being very common like the Dual Showman mentioned before although those were sealed except the cabs are almost like cardboard, in fact that is one of the amps I used until I bought my first SVT in 1975 and I've never had any reason to buy anything else since.
Most amps sound good until you get used to SVT's especially with the original heads then they all pale (at least for most people)

With all due respect to your privacy, have the reasons you don't play out anymore been discussed here? I'm curious. I haven't played out in ages myself. My old high school band mates seem to be better at forming local bands than I am.

SVT's are great. I own 2, one the square box with handles (late 60's?) and one with a handle and wheels (early 70's?.) The both sound great, but their large size and lack of horns like in my SWR I haven't used them much lately.
