yeah, the strings went through the body at a 90 degree angle, or close to it, it also depended on how your intonation was set, more flat, more angle.

As long as I change strings once a month (assuming 2 rehearsals per week, 1-2 gigs per month), I never break strings (unless using an 80 A instead of an 85). Last week in practice, I broke an E (105) that had been on the bass since (I think) february. Only had it happen a couple times at gigs, since I usually change strings before those. Like I said, I play hard (and often fast) ...
