In my opinion, Back to the Egg is the most underrated solo Beatles album. There is a lot of great music on this one, rockers to the hilt and some great ballads. Pure Wings sound. One of my favorites. It has gotten zero credit from critics and many fans.

Andrew. I'm a fan of it as well. To me the LP plays better because of the Sunny side/
Over Easy tracks. To me when you flip the LP over and Rockestra starts it's almost as if the 2nd part of the show begins. Side 2 stalled a little for me but it ended great. I heard Chris Thomas wasn't excited about how things were going and that may have finally shown through. Certainly not his best effort, but certainly more deserving and it was with arguably the best WINGS lineup.

Oh, by the way, the following song, "Winter Love" is the fretless 4001 too me thinks.

My favorite full-band Wings lineups were the first and last versions of the band, both of which were sadly short lived. I wonder what Band on the Run would have sounded like with Henry and Denny... Although, on the flip side of the coin, my favorite of Paul's post-Beatles albums are all- or mostly-solo recordings.

Richard, what about Red Rose Speedway?

Carmen, good call! I forgot to mention that one. He had it on tour in 1989/90 as a back up to his WAL.

FWIW, I heard an apocryphal story that Paul was to also have a 4003/8 but that it was lost in shipment.

I think there's also some fretless on Love in Song on Venus and Mars.

Fran, I did listen last night and I think you are absolutely correct. Side 2 of Back to the Egg starts off well, but it really stalls out for me and that song is one that just doesn't do anything for me. However, I really dug the bass. Thanks!

I have a picture of the ROCKESTRA session but am having trouble posting a good picture that will fit.

Agreed, it does slow down a bit, but overall the LP is a gem. But the real value of this latest listen for me was hearing a good representative Rick FL sound, which as far as I know, isn't the most common sound out there!
