But why? What is it about Robbie that would make one so hostile?

THREAD CLOSED.

There's a thread in the Beatles area now where some are saying that Jeff Lynne is not their cup of tea. Some say it's the beard. Why? Your guess is as good as mine.

Bearing a vague resemblance to Jeff Lynne these days, I will avoid that thread, to avoid any uneccessary bruising.
There are those who want Jeff's head on a pole, which I don't understand. He was in The Move, for pete's sake.
Glenn, check your email.

Having learned a bunch of ELO songs for a tribute show I played in last Feb., I have to say that the guy wrote some amazing tunes, and is a really great singer. I'll admit by the 80's things got stale, but most 60's artists were at that point anyway.
Sure his production sense may be slightly annoying in that he gives people his sound, but whatever, he's great!

Although I've never cared for ELO's music, I like the work that Jeff Lynne did with Roy Wood on the last few records by The Move. I also liked his earlier work in The Idle Race.

We played a show last Saturday night and a former child star was on before us (not R.R.). They were a bit rude, taking 1/2 hour to clear their gear off! They drank and congratulated themselves in the meanwhile.

Way more formerly. I'd rather not spill the beans.

Some artists, it seems, polarize the listening public. Who knows why.

Jeff Lynne did write and sing some really great tunes. When ELO came to town many years ago (1976) I took B&W pics of them and I have one shot of Jeff at the mic that I posterized and he looks electrified. A really neat effect, rather appropos.

I always liked their tunes, but the drawback for me was the "single singer singing every song syndrome". Same voice not many different keys. Not a terrible situation though.
Can't Get It Out Of My Head is my fave ELO tune.

>>"single singer singing every song syndrome"<<
He was ahead of his time, no? Now you have to get on you knees and give thanks to the pop Gods if you get a band with someone who can sing harmony, if not one guy who can sing period (sorry, but I just loath the gruff voiced grunge sound.)
My favorite bands have always been filled with multiple singers...Beatles, Who, Elton John Band, The Band, TP & Heartbreakers, Byrds and on....
Unfortunately, not a contemporary act in the lot.
For those of you old enough to remember, do you remember classified ads recruiting players for local bands in the new wave days that said "bass player, must have backing vocals" ?
You know that was over by the 80s. Thanks AC/DC.
