Hi Ginger! Good to see you. I hope you are doing great! I enjoyed your video, and wrote you back but never heard anything from you...........

As for the markers, on my 2005 4001FL, I hate the markers and I rarely look at them! I wish they would not put any on the fingerboard and put a FEW on the fret positions, like 3, 5 and 12, on the binding. John Hall, are you checking this thread out>?

Of all the fretless basses I have and have had over the years, my Zon with no markers on the fingerboard and only side dots at the 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc. work best for me.

Jeff...I was thinking the same scenario would probably work the best for someone like me who has really never played a fretless much(even though I've always loved the sound of one).I would rather have them along the side and not the fingerboard.

Rickenbacker is or has gone back to the old system according to what JH said here several months ago. They were made that way since they started making them as far as I know, my 72 has dots where every fret would be. I learned on a Fender years ago which had dots at 3rd, 5th, 7th, etc. right on the notes where the frets would have been, that is still my preferred system too and I think it is the traditional system. I had a 68 fretless P bass, was probably one of their first years made.
I hate the dots on the between notes on my blueboy which sounds really great though, it's taking a trip pretty soon to Dale where it's getting the 3rd, 5th etc. treatment like it has now but on the notes not in between which to me is the most disorienting scheme I've ever tried. The dot at every note system is really only confusing way up the neck once you get used to it, then you use your ears which is the best way really.
