I had to lower the treble pickup especially on the E string side on my '06 4003FL to make it sound more to my liking.

On the other hand, the neck pickup on my 4001S is kind of weak, toaster pickups have much more output. Maybe after the 75th has passed, I will ask Sergio if he would rewind that pickup for me for me.

Thanks both Jeff and Joey . Jeff i use an old SVT so no master volume . I also use lite strings 40-95 . Im used to running my volume and tone wide open . I do on my jazz basses.with the lower output pickups such as early 70's jazz pickups lets say 7.0 to 8.5 ohm .running them wide open gets the tone i desire . That classic killer Mid growl . I've also experienced that tone as well with the rick 4001 basses .Wich is what im looking for .

Maybe it is just my eyes, but that pickup looks as though it's been re-sprayed. And the mounting plate is upside down, which means the whole assembly was er... disassembled somewhere along the line.

I agree ... it looks repainted ... I have done that to a few really beat up old 4001 pickups myself ... when done properly it can improve the appearance ...
