Lars has the right hump there. I don't know when it began, but my 2000 4003S/5 has it.

No nervousness necessary, Alex. My 2003 C64S has the same neck profile that RIC says it will be using for the 4003 and it is ROCK solid. My mid-80's 4003's have even smaller necks and are also solid.

I guess they should change their templates more often eh?

Personally, I don't think it's a "pronounced" hump. It had to be pointed out to me very closely before I even realized it was there. To me, the pickguard looks the same as it has for years, so it doesn't bug me at all. I'd rather have the "S" back than have Rickenbacker expending effort to make said hump less "pronounced".

I've been noticing it more and more on my 4003's.

The funny thing is, that if I hadnt read about it here a while back, I probably wouldnt have noticed it at all.

CS Un-Humped his many, many years ago. Screw re-location.

It's not really the hump itself that jumps out at me. It's the "wrong" looking asthetics of that particular pickguard. As I examine it, it's the hump that is found to be the culprit.

(Sorry if this info is posted elsewhere, I am catching up!)

Has it been confirmed that the new models have thinner necks? Any details on how much thinner? That is a great development!!

Dean, Check out Jeff's post on the 'New 4003 on the way' thread. No numbers but he says thinner profile.

Maybe Eyegor said it best-
"What hump?"

I got my hands on as many 4003 necks as I could during the tour, and I can vouch that they feel thin like my '68 bass.

For the record, both styles are still in production while we make the transition. That's why you see no official announcement regarding this "feature".

It should also be noted that the vintage profile hasn't been completely well received; there are many people that liked it as is was and have made mention of that to us. It's a challenge we always seem to face, that when we satisfy one group of people, another group is made unhappy, and the main reason we don't make too many changes even when we know well there are improvements that we could make.

Thanks John. I just got my 75th 4003 officially ordered today (yahoo!), and was figuring that it would have the slimmer neck. By the time you build those, do you think that may not be the case then?

I eagerly await that answer as well... I want to order a FL and I'm content waiting until the thin neck's a given. Image

I had my hand around the neck of the 75th bass and it felt like a c64 to me.
