I did a mod where I replaced the treble tone pot with a 1meg pot and wired it as a "treble pass" control.
You put the cap on the center and side lug. As you turn
the shaft, the signal gets re routed through the cap. The high resistance of the pot acts like a switch but with "sweep" in between.
It won't work with a lower resistance.

Mine is similar to yours John except I kept the same pot. Mine goes from full off to full on. By bleeding into ground I mean it's gradually shorting out the high frequencies somehow as the ground connections are the common point and the highs aren't going into thin air, a cap won't block highs when it's in a series circuit, caps pass highs when in series and block highs when in parallel as you probably know. The cap is maybe in parallel with the volume controls, I'll have to put the new schematic on paper and look at it. It's something I should have done when I first discovered it, was a lot of interest here until I realized what was happening. I think it may be something to do with having both pickups going to one tone in this circuit.
