The mute on my 75 4001 works flawlessly but the foam has seen better days.

I use it when I need it (not too often)so I keep it where it belongs in the hole.It really has no effect on my playing when not in use.Nice to have though as it is semi adjustable.

I use it a lot, both in my V63 and 4003 since I play in a Beatles tribute band
RIC should do something to balance in a better way the muting power between central strings and side ones

the mechanical mute needs to be tweaked if you want to use it ... you will probably have to take the whole tailpiece apart ... one problem with the mute is the adhesive on the bottom of the rubber pad sometimes makes it also stick to the wood which renders the mute unmovable ... this can be corrected by trimming the pad so it is not quite as wide ...

another problem is the arch of the metal plate on which the mute pad rests is quite often the wrong radius ... this can be corrected by bending it slightly ...

I use it in the studio quite a bit, but if it were a quick flip of a switch or something, i'd use it more live. The mute-raise knobs on my '06 MG was quite stiff, I can't seem to remember how they are on my '99.

I use the mute every show, on several songs. I lower it just enuff that it doesn't touch the strings, then when I need it it's just a quick turn of each knob to engage.

Sorry, I just re-read the thread's title. No, I don't use my 4003's mute. Sorry for any confusion caused by previous post.
