Steve, John Hall and I have an agreement that I will be building acoustics with the Rickenbacker look, name, and features for an indeterminate length of time.

These guitars will be a combination of Rickenbacker parts and parts made by me to Rickenbacker specifications.

More on this later, as I get things organized and get caught up on my current projects.

So did I! Great guitar you made there, Paul.

I loved the sound and playability on Gary Clauson's six string so much, I just may have to find a way to get one.

I left it out to play and was very gratified that it seemed to be making the rounds...I wanted the strings to be bedded-in well for Kantner. I was quite surprised to see Marty pick it up at the acoustic show...It was, "Quick! Give me the camera!!!".

But apparently no one who played it on Friday and Saturday, played it hard enough. So Marty had to re-tune frequently. Everything turned out fine, though. It stood up to Marty's gentle style and Paul's rather more aggressive way of playing.

I don't have plans to develop any new guitars at this time, so an acoustic bass is not in the foreseeable future, Brian. Sorry.

Hmm, maybe i'll be able to get that Blue Boy Rick acoustic after all! Great news Paul, i'll be tuned in for details.

Marty has a habit of tuning is guitar before and after each song he does. Gives him the opportunity to engage with the audience and exchange witty banter and share anecdotes of his songs.
I can't believe you are buidling him a Rick acoustic. About time he had/owned/played one. The only other time I've ever seen him hold a Rick acoustic was on the video for Under The Milk Way with The Church. It was a Jazzbo, I believe, from Mr. Halls Collection.

Can't wait to see it when it's done. Finally, something to replace that Takamine of his.

It'll be a 12. We are discussing finish and specs.

John Hall told me that, when Marty did his sound check at MOMM, the Takamine was sitting on stage in its usual place. Marty walked past it, picked up the Shasta, and announced, "I think I'll play this one tonight."

So he did.

When I was waiting for my Cumberland 12 last Spring, I went down the street to GC and played every Tak 12 in the house--about a dozen in all. Taks haven't changed since I last played them in the mid-'80s--to me they're still the Honda Accord of acoustics. Consistent, bland, but characterless IMO. (Duck, PW!!!)

Yes, the 12!!
That's funny. That's what I consider Taks to be, Hondas and the Jasmine line more like Kias.
I personally don't like the sound of them but I can't complain when Marty plays them.

What are the chances of this guitar becoming a signature model. I know a lot of fans of both Rick and Marty that would buy one. Including me!!

The difference between Marty's personal acoustic and a standard one would come down to pickguard or color, or perhaps both...

RIC acoustics are rare enough to not need the tiny boost in sales that a signature model would possibly offer. And a huge boost in sales would be impossible to accommodate at this juncture.
