Charly ... the 4003s5 and the 4003 4-2-5 can both take the 2 1/4" spacing ... the 4004 can go to 2 3/8" ... so Charly if you measure the 4003 4-2-5 that I did for you it should measure 2 1/4" ... the stock for a 4003 is 2 1/16" ...

for me 2 1/16" on five string is cumbersome ... 2 1/4" is workable ... 2 3/8" is comfortable ... and 2 1/2" is perfect ... 2 5/8" is comfortable ... 2 3/4" is too wide ... 3" is way too wide ... and for my left hand I like 1 5/8" to 1 7/8" at the nut ...

my 4003s5 and my 4003 4-2-5 both have the same 2 1/4" bridge string spacing ... the limiting factor is the pickups ... and the reason I can only get 2 3/8" on a 4004 is the hb2 pickups ... with different pickups I could get 2 3/8 on a 4003 and 2 1/2" on a 4004 ...

Sorry, Chris. We were in town long enough to visit the Georgia Aquarium and the Fernbank Museum. My son was dying to see the Aquarium. We headed off to Myrtle Beach rather quickly to maximize our beach time Image. I only managed to squeeze in the bass shop visit since we were nearby and left the Aquarium with enough time to stop by before ABG closed.

UPDATE: I restrung the s5 with Thomastik-Infeld Superalloys and a lot of the classic Ric growl is back. I took it to practice and a gig last Sunday and the band loved it! It really gave a pronounced low end. I wound up using it in conjunction with my Lull PJ5 strung with TI flats. I'm a very happy camper right now and there are no plans to flip it anytime soon.
