Weird how the Standells made that turnaround, from a Pompadoured-suit-wearing-doing-a-bad-cover-of "I Want To Hold Your Hand" on the Munsters, to long haired weirdos doing great garage music like "Dirty Water" and "Sometimes the Good Guys Don't Wear White". That's Showbiz!

Yeah. I remember photos of them waiting around LAX for "...their friends, The Rolling Stones..." to arrive. You never saw "The New Establishment" kissing up like that.

There was no one around for The New Establishment to kiss up to. Maybe The Monkees. Colgems probably just created TNE to make the Monkees look cool by comparison. But there is still that unexpected flash of brilliance that caused the band to be equipped with Rickenbackers. Actually, they played "Tomorrowland", so management probably thought Ricks looked futuristic, eh Sonny Jim?

Leave us not forget Paul Petersen and The Sundowners on 'The Flying Nun'. A gut wrenching pseudopsychedelic disaster, featuring Rickenbacker's 4005 bass. Well, okay. At least the bass was entertaining.

"My Dad" by Paul Petersen (yes, THAT Paul Petersen) was a Top 10 hit in 1962. Can you spell "Insipid"?

Surprisingly, he had several top 10 entries, one single produced by Brian Wilson. He was a real favorite with the teen femmes. Never saw HIM play a Rick though. I just thought it was a gas to see the 4005 on the Sally Field thing.
