I guess that fret board separation is fixable, but I wouldn't pay big bucks for something in that condition. You think the guy had noise problems with all the attempted shielding efforts? And I'm worried about drilling a hole in a headstock, but I would never carve a rick body up like that. You think people not knowing about the cap caused a lot of unnecessary pickup mods like this?

Probably, Mark! All he had to do was bypass the cap!
Whoever did this deserves a serious beating. This was such a nice bass.

This is such an easy fix.....
Why it would make a great candidate for an AzG re-fin......

Ted, the lefty 4001 BG(redone by Paul W) I took to California is about 60 numbers from this one on ebay, both are Nov. 1972. IMO this bass could be brought back.

It has good bones, as they say.

Indeed. It could do with a decent treble pickup for starters. (Addressing the 4001) What do you say, sweetie? How about one of my creations?

Any bass would be honored by one of your pickups Sergio.

You're very kind Ted, but I feel I've yet to prove myself by, say, building a pickup set for a resto project like the one at issue. If only a forumite would pick up that '72 4001, I'd be happy to be able to oblige.

Sergio, how about building me a 'more correct' bobbin for my BG '72, one with screw-top pole pieces? I think the one in it now is from '73, it has the button poles. Let's talk...

This will probably go for about $1,700.00 It is a transition model with all the right stuff. Add the correct Bridge P-up and fix a few things and you'll have a nice player.

I wonder if that was one of yours Dale. Unfortunately, we did not get a peek under the TRC to find out.

I'm liking it more and more as I look at it!

Kevin: give in to her charms NOW!
John: Sure. We're talking about the tall bobbin/pan-head screw version, right? Does your 4001 still have the .0047 capacitor on it?
Dale: actually my idea was to build a very hot high-gain-style bridge p.u. for the November '72 4001 so that the instrument could have good, useful output.
