Sorry Les-I'm the guy that scooped up that beauty.
Anybody got any ideas where to get a string set for this beast? I run DR Highlights on my 4003's but don't think there is a 8 string set for these...
Suggestions???

Does Rickenbacker not have any left?
If not, D'Addario and SIT both make 8 string sets among others.

You could always piece together a set. Music Connection lists the guages as 45/20 55/25 70/35 90/45

Congrats on the 4003S/8, Jared. Had a chance at a Jetglo-8 many years back but didn't pull the trigger and I have regretted it ever since. I am making do with a Dean Rhapsody 8, as well as (of course) my four Rick basses. The Dean really isn't too bad at all for the price, though if anyone comes across another Rick 8 for sale at a reasonable price (i.e., not more than original retail!) let me know!

thanks guys!
Yeah I saw that Chris @ Pick-of-the-Rics and Mike Parks both have Ric 8 string sets...But ya know I love them DR's.
Maybe I can combine a 4 string set w/a g'tar set?

Nope, wrong scale. You can however order piccolos (like Bass Burners) and use them in conjunction with a light guage fundamental set.

He scores! Les has grabbed his 4003s/8, which can be viewed here:
http://www.bassemporium.com/used/usedframeset.html (scroll down) until the ad is taken offline.
I saw it mentioned in the "For Sale" forum here and I live about 2 hours away....I immediately cancelled afternoon appointments, drove like a madman through raging thunderstorms and got my 8-stringer. Plays like a dream, still has the original hang tags and no scratches, but it does have a fair amount of weather-checking, which it apparently developed as a new instrument in the original guitar store in Austin (air conditioning go out or something?) Funny that it is the newest of 5 Rick basses that I own, but the only one that has ANY checking. Bass Emporium also has an '82 4003 that has some weather checking as well; I guess that Texas sun just does it if you aren't careful. But, after over a decade of trying I now have my 4003s/8 and I hope to post a family portrait of my Ricks soon!

Glad to see my post did some good. I live right behind Bass Emporium, on Penny Lane believe it or not. John runs a great shop.

Yes, it's a bass players dream. Thanks for the heads up--I was actually there a couple of months ago on a tour of the Austin shops looking for a Rick 8, but he accurately noted that you don't see them very often. The bass originally came from Strait music--given the checking, they must have put it in a sunny window to display. By the way, on my last trip, there were TWO two-pickup 3000-series Ricks in two different south Austin shops, both a bit overpriced but I was surprised to find two of them, given that I hardly ever run across them.

I told John at BE it was too bad it wasn't a lefty or I would have bought it as soon as I saw it. That's a nice bass.
For any Hofner fans, Bass Emporium is a Hofner dealer. I was in there this week as they were packing up a "Cavern" model for shipment to the East Coast.

For Hofner fans, you should check out Northcoast Music, an on-line dealer of Hofners, Ricks, Gretch, and other "British Invasion" guitars. He's also the maker of Sonic loudspeakers:
www.voxshowroom.com/northcoast
At any given moment, he has the largest selection of Beatle basses in the country. His supply of Ricks fluctuates due to supply problems (like everyone, I guess). Gary is great to work with. I bought my Deluxe 5000/1 from him at a great price.
