Just not a fan of it on Ricks. John, if I ever come across any, they're yours. Image

Thanks all. My Fireglo Birdseye 381/12V69 is an early one with a November 1987 serial number. According to "The Rickenbacker Book" these reissues were not in production until 1988.

I wish RIC had some nice flamey tops on them... I think with that added to the mix makes a special guitar. I snoozed on a 660BBR that Music Zoo had that was nice and flamey. Those Carl Wilsons are unbelievable. I own a couple myself... I hope my 381v69BBR comes nice and figured...

I'm glad that the variation is available, but I personally would not special order it as an option. I tend to prefer non-flamey very plain woods on Ricks. I guess I think that Ricks are elegant enough in their simple design, and adding more flash confuses the simplicity of the message a bit. But that's just my personal taste. Goodness knows there are some beeyoutiful guitars pictured on this thread!

I have seen some 660s and some 381s in Mapleglo that looked very nice to me with birdseye maple and a lil' flame, though. If I could order birdseyes, I might.

And now that I think about it, quilted or flamed tops could be really nice on a 650C. THAT would be cool! I'd order that.

I think the flame/quilt maple tops on say a 381 mapleglo look killer, however for me I generally like a plainer top. I have one PRS, a McCarty, which I bought 2nd hand. It's got some flame but is not a fancy top and i prefer that to the AAA + rated tops. But thats just me. If some of you Rickenbacker folk really love the flame and Rick wanted to offer it that is fine, I just wouldn't stand in line for one.
