I'd say the price!

The price was OK, I picked it up locally for a steal, it was just too sterile for me and didn't have enough power to keep up with the band. I had it dimed and I had to still run into the monitors to hear myself.

Steve, was that the 125 watt Nemesis 1X15 combo (with silver trim rather than blue)? If so, it's no wonder you had that thing cranked!

I have the Ampeg B200R. Great amp, but just over $600.00 which is a little more than you want to spend.

When I played with the blues band,, I used Carvin amps. Very affordable, sounded great, plenty of headroom, and I never had a problem with them. I used a RL1000 head through an Ampeg 410.

I see they have a newer, updated line of combo's. They may be just what your looking for.

I can stretch the budget slightly, guys. The B200R and the Eden are still in the running for me.

I'd ask you for some advice in this matter Jared, but of course, you don't play your basses.

Mine was the Eden Nemesis B15S 120 Watt combo, silver. And yes, 120 cannot keep up with a rock band.

I used to have one of the older Carvin combo, it was a very nice one, used it and ran a 2x15 extension cab on stage. Very good for the money.

Actually Steve, if you add an 8 Ohm extension cab to the little Eden it'll put out 170 watts. Still not enough for a rock band in my opinion. The Silver Series is basically meant as an entry level/student/practice amp with some pro features like DI etc.

John, I first had the Ampeg BA115 100 Watts combo and it did not keep up with even the drums in the practice room. Not enough oomph. I'd go to the B200, or look at an Ampeg PortaBass combo - lightweight and balls.

Whatever you do, try them out, but then you know that.

Bill, I did that, it helped, but not quite enough volume for me. I still had her maxed out.

for me a 300 watt head and the choice of bringing one or two of several different bass cabs is the way to go ... scalable and plenty of overhead ... even for playing at home this setup works ... I just run the volume at 2 ... the line6 pod gives me all of the character and distortion of an amp turned up but I still have a lower volume ...

Do yourself a favor and check out the Ashdown MAG C115-300.

I have one and love it. It holds it's own against the Marshall half stacks in my band.

I have the Ashdown MAG 300, but the 4x10 config. I love the sound, but I'm starting to wonder how durable it is. Then again, I'm hard on stuff in general. But for the money, it's hard to do much better in terms of tone and volume, IMHO.
