Yes, thanks for the correction, trademark is the proper word. Anyone enterprising person can indeed modify a pickup and deisgn it so that it fits precisely in the cavity or position. As long as it does not have the look of pickup that is trademarked then I can't see it as being a problem.

As Sandfordn has indicated, this may result in an expensive item. I agree with Kenny Howes, Nathan, why not try a RIC humbucker first. I am happy with the result in my Model 350.

I think I will give the HB1 a try,it cant hurt.

Now,where can I get one and how much.There is no Ric dealers anywhere near me.

Just a couple of brief definitions with regard to PATENT and TRADEMARK from my recent readings. I am sure that these basic definitions only scratch the surface, but they have made the terms more understandable to me.

PATENT
A patent is a property right granted by the United States, and by other nations, which gives the holder the exclusive right to exclude others from manufacture, use, or sale of the invention. Under GATT, the patent property rights exist for a period of 20 years from date of application.

TRADEMARK
A word, a name, a symbol, a device, or a combination of them that indicates the source of goods or services. It distinguishes the products or services of one business from those of others in the same field. The owner/assignee/licensee of a trademark/mark has the right to exclude others from using that trademark/mark by being the first to use it in the marketplace. Rights in a trademark/mark are obtained only through commercial use of the mark. The owner of a trademark/mark has the right to exclude others unless the trademark/mark has been abandoned.

Indeed, the "toaster top" is a trademark, specifically U.S. PTO Reg. No. 2,665,042, as well as other registrations around the world. Unlike a patent, this may be renewed indefinitely at 10 year intervals.

i just bought some dearmond 2k pickups. fender now makes deamond and also owns gretsch guitars. these are the old style single coil pickups (dynasonic) found on early fifties gretsch guitars pre-filtertrons.(most of you all probably know this. they seem to be about the same size as toater tops and i'm rreal curious about how they woukld sound on a ric. thye may be what you are looking for. bit more high end than a p-90. check this deal out.

very cheap for these pickups. gretsch sell them for over $200. i bought four of them.

I have the 2Ks on a DeArmond Starfire Special, and they sound great. I had a DeA 12 string with the 2Ks (back up for my 360/12), and that sounded great as well.

If I remember correctly, the P-90 pickup is wound to around 8.5 K with 42 gauge wire and uses two strong bar magnets, plus it has a squat bobbin, much like all Rickenbacker pickups, hence I think I can safely assume that soundwise it isn't a lot different than a Rickenbacker 6-pole pickup in the neck position. What exactly are you after, Nathan? More output from both pickups on your Rick or just from one? A totally different sound? I think you will be able to find a replacement Rickenbacker pickup that fills your needs.

I am finding the Ric Hi-gains harsh in the high end and lacking warmth.I have no problem with there output.They sound fine when used for clean stuff,which is the Ric stongpoint,but they are not doing for me when cranked up.I think the pickups are not liking my new amp all that much.I am just looking at fixing the bridge pickup.

It seems I am after a more traditionaly voiced pickup.I realy like P90's,but it I got get a PAF type sound I would be just as happy.

I am realy close to just slaping on a dogear soapbar and saying to heck with not butchering my guita.So far there has not been a lot of info for non destructive mods.Lots of "everyone else likes them,you should too".I would be very interested in knowing what will fit in the Ric P-up covers as a drop in replacement.


I know I am going against Ric traditionism,but I would love to be able to use a guitar I realy like more often.


I would try the vintage toaster tops,but fear they are not hot enough,voiced simmilar to the Hi-gains and would be a costly venture just to see if I like a pick-up.

There are rumors that a strat style pickup will fit in the mounting assembly without any modifications,but no one seems to know about going about it.You can get Strat style pick ups that sound like P90's and others,Seymore duncan comes to mind.


Is there a wirring modification I could try to get my Ric sounding the way I want.


I am debating on selling my Ric and getting a Les Paul special,but I would rather kepp my 330 and get it doing what I think it can.

It is early 90's,I think a 93.I never bothered to look it up.
