For me... most definitely my '77 4001JG. I'm sure I'll own a few more basses before I'm done, but not only will I never off her, but the others will have a LONG way to go to stack up. The neck, the tone... and sure she's got her dings but I don't care.

I someday may build a 5 string bass that is based on the 4005 or the 650 guitar ... it would be a loose interpretation and not a copy or replica ... I would do it with a bolt on neck ...

I built this guitar from scratch about 5 years ago and it has become my #1 gigging guitar. I bought a piece of quartersawn mahogany, and a piece of slab cut maple. Book matched and carved the maple top and added a Fender Am Dlx Strat neck to it. Out of the 17 guitars I own, it's my "go to" guitar when it's time to rock!

That 4005/"5" is indeed a 4005/6, even though the middle upper tuner has been "edited out" in the pic. No?

Love of my life; my wife and kids and family. This is followed by music - playing it. This keeps me from going crazy. And the proper way to do it is with my Rics'(4001 followed by 4003/5s), preferably well rehearsed, live, and in the 'groove'. After that I guess scuba diving and beer (making and drinking)... and so it goes.

I know they made a 4005/4 and a 4005/6 and a 4005/8 ... but I don't remember a 4005/5 being made by Rickenbacker ...

I am one of those people who have sold and bought many basses in my life, as such I don't really have a long term love. No wait actually my 1938 RCA 811K console radio I've had since 1972 is it, haha!
Bass is more than a hobby to me and I view my basses and amps as tools as much as anything, I love them when they play and sound good.
I think maybe my 79 stock mapleglo 4001 would have to be my favorite although I've been playing my BB 4003FL a lot lately. The 79 has GHS bright flats (I think) on it and it sounds vintage Rickenbacker. I bought this bass about 6 or 7 years ago. My first Ric was a 77 mapleglo 4001 that I bought brand new and is long gone.
I would also have to say that my vintage SVT's are as much a part of the musical love of my life as is the Ric bass. To me a Ric and a vintage SVT are a perfect combination.
